Okiagari-koboushi (getting-up little priest) are traditional dolls made with papier-mâché and designed like a roly-poly toy, they always return to an upright position! Like Daruma dolls, they are linked to the japanese proverb "Nanakoribi Yaoki" which means: 7 times down, 8 times up. Thereby they are a symbol of perseverance and resilience ! In the region of Aizu, where they are mad, the tradition is to buy every year one little Okiagari Koboshi per family member, plus one more to show the hope that it will grow.
Manufactured in Aizu in the Fukushima region, you will contribute to the reconstruction of damaged areas.
