This goshuinchō is a traditional Japanese stamp book used to collect calligraphy and sacred seals (goshuin) from temples and shrines.
The cover of this goshuinchō features an embroidered design of Musashi Mitake Shrine, with its staircase, two komainu (guardian lion-dogs), and a red torii gate. On the back, two stylized red komainu, symbols of protection.
Located in the mountains of Tokyo Prefecture, the Musashi Mitake shrine is known for its unique connection to dogs. According to legend, the heroic figure Yamato Takeru was once lost in the mountains when a great white wolf, a divine messenger, appeared to guide him to safety. Since then, the shrine has revered this sacred wolf-dog, known as O-inu-sama (お犬様), a protective spirit believed to ward off evil.
Today, the shrine welcomes many visitors, with or without their dog, to receive a blessing.
A plastic cover and an official brochure from the shrine are included.
