This impressive Daruma represents Date Masamune 伊達 政宗, nicknamed Dokuganryū (独眼龍) ‘the one-eyed dragon’ who left his mark on the history of feudal Japan. This lord of Tōhoku (Miyagi prefecture), recognizable by his striking kabuto crowned with a crescent moon, transcended the conventions of his time with his revolutionary vision.

Our Daruma is the embodiment of this exceptional strategist, who became an indisputable figure of authority. More than just an ornament, it represents the boundless determination of a man who dared to open Japan's doors to the outside world.

This black Daruma respects the shapes and colours of this traditional Japanese lucky charm, its purpose is to protect a home or business and ward off evil spirits. Unlike many countries, in Japan the black color often has a protective function.

As tradition dictates, it has no pupils: its left pupil should be drawn once a goal has been set (family, love, work, studies, etc.). His single eye will remind his owner of his goal every day.

Once the goal has been reached, you can draw its second eye, making it a lovely souvenir, or even a trophy!

The 2 Japanese characters ‘福入 fuku-iri’ inscribed on its belly mean happiness or blessing.
