Handcrafted in Japan

In Japanese culture, the Shishigashira mask is used in traditional dances called Shishimai, where the lion (shishi 獅子) symbolizes a protective force that drives away evil spirits. These dances are performed during New Year celebrations, religious ceremonies, and community events.

The Shishigashira represents a stylized lion's head, often carved and lacquered wood, with a colorful mane and expressive features. It embodies protection, good fortune, and purification. During the dances, the lion playfully bites the heads of spectators to bring them good luck.

This authentic Shishigashira, which has probably already been used at festivals, is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. It can be used as a collector's item, a decorative object, or for a folk or artistic performance.
