These beautiful chopsticks decorated with a kimono fabric design based on the emperor's resting place, honors Kyoto, a place famous for its kimono since the Muromachi period (1333 to 1573) and its Nishijin weaving style. It is the traditionnal Japanese embroidery and dyeing method still in use today.
Japanese urushi lacquer is made from the sap of the urushi tree, a tradition dating back to the Jomon period (6000BC).
Laquered objects (Shikki) are sensitive to a direct exposure to sunlight. These products cannot be used in microwaves and cannot be washed in dishwasher. Urushi products should be quickly dried after washing.
