This beautiful Samurai helmet is a steel made reproduction of a real helmet used by the legendary swordsmen. It consists in a "Genji-kabuto" dated from Kamakura Era (1185-1333) and composed of a Kashiradate with an Oni shape (Japanese demon) and 2 Kuwagata (bettles) on the helmet to impress his opponents.

The central ornament where are the oni and the Kuwagata, is named "maedate". The wing-like protections on each side are meant to protect the face and they have the emblems of the samurai clan, they are called "fukigaeshi", here two "komainu", lion-like creatures that protect Shinto sanctuaries, proof of the importance of religion for samurai.

The visor on top of the face, which strengthen the protection, is named "mabisashi", here with 3 cherry blossoms decoration.

The Oni is a kind of monster in the Japanese folklore, which looks like ogre and they are considered as demons or devils. Despite their appearance, they also have a protective role, this is why we can find them on Samurai helmets.

The presence of the dragon on the top of the helmet is important, in Japan dragons are present in many traditions since the Imperial family itself would descend from these legendary creatures. 

In Japan this is a tradition to present the Samurai helmets for the children's day, or Kodomo no hi, every May 5th. We say that the "Gogatsu-Ningyou" (May's figurines) give the strength, happiness and health for children.

This helmet cannot be worn because too small and too heavy for a child, it is a display item.
